On this easy Sunday, I wanted to try my very first participation for Song Lyric Sunday from newepicauthor (A Unique Title for Me). The keywords were Chin/Ears/Eyes/Face/Mouth/Nose. I opted for I’ve seen that face before by Grace Jones. It has such a good groove to it and I hope you enjoy!
Lyrics: “I’ve Seen That Face Before (Libertango)”
Seen him hanging ’round my door,
Like a hawk stealing for the prey,
Like the night waiting for the day,Strange, he shadows me back home,
Footsteps echo on the stones,
Rainy nights, on Hausmann Boulevard,
Parisian music drifting from the bars,Tu cherches quoi, rencontrer la mort?
Tu te prends pour qui
Toi aussi tu detestes la vieDance in bars and restaurants,
Home with anyone who wants,
Strange he’s standing there alone,
Staring eyes chill me to the bone.Dans sa chambre, Joel et sa valise,
Un regard sur ses fringues,
Sur les murs, des photos,
Sans regret, sans mélo,
La porte est claquée, Joel est barré.
‘Strange I’ve this face before‘ by Grace Jones (1981) a Jamaican singer. The song is a remake of Astor Piazolla’s ‘Libertango‘. Jones wrote the lyrics with Barry Reynolds who is mostly known for his long lasting collaboration with Marianne Faithful.
The song describes the darker side of Parisian nightlife. Grace recorded a Spanish version of the song ‘Esta cara es me conocita‘. You can find the song on ‘Nightclubbing’ and is now regarded as one of Jones’ signature tunes. I hope you enjoy!
