Music for Mental Health.

Hello music lovers! I do love love love music! I fell in love with music very early in my life. I grew up in Poland, under the communist regime. The first songs I was thaught in my life were the real propaganda ones. I know that now because I heard me singing them on a cassette. I was 6 years old and I was practising the song for a feast at my school. That kind of music didn’t really stick with me. There was a kid star in Poland named ‘Natalia’ which I adored and she had a great song about a dog. That was permitted in those days.

Once my mother and I arrived in the West with the big iron bird, there was also the world of real music! I watched the ‘Top 40’, very popular in those days. And I fell in love with one David Bowie and two George Michael. I had no idea what sexual preferences were, I just liked the songs and the ‘vibe’. Till this day I love men with a beard and I personaly blame Mr Michael for it. Did you have a celebrity crush when you were little? Do you still fancy that person a little?

The first cd I bought was Queen, the Greatest Hits, vol I. I think Freddy is just a genius. The song I chose for today is the combination of a wonderful Queen song performed by George Micheal and it gives me so much joy.

I love the charisma, the way he communicates with the audience which is huge. The way they all sing with him. The beautiful tribute to Freddy Mercury.

But the lyrics, they captivate how I felt during my burnout:

Each morning I get up I die a little
Can barely stand on my feet
(Take a look at yourself)
Take a look in the mirror and cry
Lord what you’re doing to me
I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just can’t get no relief, Lord!
Somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

I work hard (he works hard) every day of my life
I work ’till I ache in my bones
At the end (at the end of the day)
I take home my hard earned pay all on my own
I get down (down) on my knees (knees)
And I start to pray
Till the tears run down from my eyes
Lord somebody, somebody
(Please) can anybody find me somebody to love?

(He works hard) Everyday (everyday) I try and I try and I try
But everybody wants to put me down
They say I’m going crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
Got no common sense
I got nobody left to believe in

Lord, somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?
(Can anybody find me someone to love?)

Got no feel, I got no rhythm
I just keep losing my beat (you just keep losing and losing)
I’m OK, I’m alright (he’s alright, he’s alright)
I ain’t gonna face no defeat

I just gotta get out of this prison cell
One day (someday) I’m gonna be free, Lord!
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love

Somebody somebody somebody somebody
Somebody find me
Somebody find me somebody to love
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

Do you know songs that describe your mental health? That can put into words what you are going through? Share them with me in the comments if you will.

  1. Brilliant. Kacha. I must admit I wondered about ur name because I haven’t heard it in Belgie before. I could take or leave GM but every now and again we’d hear about selfless stuff he did, and a lot more came out after his death. He was a good guy, 2016 really was a shitty year, we lost a lot of people. He must’ve been about 5 years older than me so I was very aware of Wham!, growing up. But would you believe I was once in the ABBA Fan Club? I was only 11 or 12, and it was just before they split. They (someone) sent me a photo – woohoo! I will post more someday.
Did you ever post about Poland? I’d like to read more about that.

    1. ABBA is great! They were considered very hip in Poland. I think they are fabulous and really made good music. A photo from ABBA, that is very cool! Would like to read about that.

Wham! I missed a bit, I got to know GM through his ‘Faith’ LP although I had the cassette.

I thought to post about Poland. I red about the Iron Curtain but it’s still difficult. I visited almost all the communist countries possible to understand more about the regime, visited every museum in Berlin. I saw movies and listened to music and till this day I can’t get it together in my head. My whole family and my history is so warped through those things it still upsets me to this day.

I will post about it but it may take a whole lot time more, or not, I will follow my soul in that one. Now I know that I already have 1 reader 🙂 Thank you for visiting and commenting!

      1. Oh yes! Listening to the Beatles and the Stones were acts in favor of the West, you know where all morals were set aside! Everything is controlled through the Party. Religion was also not ‘allowed’, no fashion from behind the Wall etc. The pure communist mind could be influenced! But it did vary from time period to time period and country to country. Poland had it better than Russia. I think I wrote a small post already 🙂

      2. btw Wham! – The Final had all the singles in chronological order, Wham! was 90% GM so you will probably like it. Would you believe that before he went solo he signed the rights to Last Christmas away to Andrew Ridgely (the other guy in the band who was not so good) so that he’d be financially secure for life?

      3. Wauw, that is a real nice chirstmas gift! I didn’t knew that. I understood that GM died very lonely, what I wouldn’t wish for anybody.

      4. Listening now! Thank you! I know a few of the songs already. I didn’t knew that you send that through the comments, I struggle to send a picture. Thank you very much for the musical touch to my day!

      5. Yes this album was released exactly when Wham! split. My WP subscription only allows me to copy certain types of file up, it doesn’t allow videos but it *does* allow .zip files. And, you can package any file as a .zip. So I was pleased I got around that. Did you take the file? If so I will delete it, in case the WP Police get stressed about copyrighted stuff on here.
I just had a lovely vegan Pad Thai for supper 🙂

  2. I can’t believe how many times I’ve heard “Somebody to Love” and yet I never heard most of the lyrics! I must have been too busy enjoying the sound. 😊

One of my favorite Queen songs is “Pressure.” Those lyrics still resonate for me, both when I’m feeling stressed in general and when I think about larger social issues. Also, David Bowie and Freddy Mercury are amazing together!

    1. That is a great song! The voices are amazing. I saw a clip of how it was recorded, it’s amazing. Now you mention it, it can resonate with stressful times. I still have stress, so I will definitely listen to it. Thanks for the observation!
